Privacy Policy — MarginSentry

Last updated: 20 September 2026

MarginSentry compares supplier price files with your Shopify catalogue, flags products whose margin falls below your target, and — only when you confirm — writes purchase costs and selling prices back to your store. This policy describes what data is processed and how.

Data processed

With your authorisation, MarginSentry reads catalogue data through the Shopify Admin API: products, variants, SKUs, barcodes, selling prices, inventory items and their unit costs, and the product type, vendor, tags and collections used to segment margins. It also processes the supplier price files you upload. For purchasing and stock, it also reads inventory quantities per location, your locations, and — for sales-based reorder forecasts — orders of the last 90 days, from which it keeps only the order date and, per variant, the quantities sold. It never reads, stores or displays customer names, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, addresses or payment details. MarginSentry does not collect or store any end-customer personal data.

Purchase orders and suppliers

Purchase orders, stocktakes and transfers you create, and the supplier contact details you enter (name, e-mail, phone), are stored to operate those features. When you e-mail a purchase order to a supplier, the message and its PDF are sent through a transactional e-mail provider (Resend) with the supplier's address and your reply-to address; the provider keeps delivery logs according to its own policy.

Supplier files you upload

An uploaded file is held only as long as needed to map its columns and produce the import lines you review. Deleting an import removes its lines and the retained file content.

What is written back

Nothing is written to your store without an explicit confirmation on the review screen. Every write is recorded with the value read immediately beforehand, which is what makes the rollback exact.

Data stored

Only what is needed to operate: the Shopify API access token (used solely to call the Shopify Admin API on your behalf, deleted on uninstall), your settings, your suppliers, your imports and their lines, a local mirror of your catalogue used to match files without hammering the Shopify API, the history of purchase costs, and the write operations that make rollback possible. All of it is tied to your store.

Exchange rates

When a supplier file is in a different currency from your store, MarginSentry fetches the day's reference rate from public sources (open.er-api.com, and a public rate dataset served by jsDelivr as a fallback). These requests contain only the two currency codes — no store data, no catalogue data, no identifiers.

Third parties

MarginSentry stores your data on its own server hosted in Europe. Data is not sold, rented, or shared for advertising. Apart from Shopify and the exchange-rate sources above, no third party receives your data.

Retention and deletion

Uninstalling the app deletes your access token immediately. MarginSentry implements Shopify's mandatory privacy webhooks: on a store-deletion request, all data belonging to your store is erased. You can also delete any import from the app at any time.

Your rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data at any time by writing to the contact address below.
